the daemon is determined to operate when i'm out of the office. i was at lunch when it said: > The following information was provided by the package's contributor. > > Name of contribution: ifetex > Author's name: Martin Scharrer > Package version: v1.2 > Location on CTAN: macros/latex/contrib/ifetex/ > Summary description: Update to v1.2: New macro \NeedsETeX > License type: lppl > > Announcement text given by the package's contributor: > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > This update adds a LaTeX macro \NeedsETeX[<version>] which works like > \NeedsTeXFormat but tests if e-TeX is avaiable, in a version not older > than stated if the optional argument is used. thanks for the upload; i've installed the new version, and updated the catalogue repository. > Users may view the package catalogue entry at > http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/ifetex.html > or they may browse the package directory at > http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/ifetex/ The catalogue entry will change (somewhat) overnight tonight. ifetex – Provides \ifetex switch

The package provides the switch \ifetex which indicates whether e- is available or not.

The package can be loaded as package using \usepackage{ifetex} or in plain using \input ifetex. In either case it aborts silently if the \ifetex macro is already defined.

The package’s test is whether \version is defined as a primitive; if it is, the package assumes e- features are available.

Please note, that ifetex is now part of iftex.
