One can also fill-in portions of matrices with color, add text labels, and draw vertical and horizontal lines to denote partitions. Diagrams can be independently scaled in size and aspect, allowing for more realistic and relative drawings, such as in matrix factorizations.

matrixdiagrams – Create structured matrix diagrams using TikZ
This package generates schematic matrix diagrams in TikZ to visualize specific structures within matrices, such as bidiagonal, tridiagonal, and Hessenberg forms.
