CTAN Update: biber

Date: February 17, 2010 10:04:49 AM CET
On Mon, 15 Feb 2010, Francois Charette submitted an update to the biber package. Biber is a BibTeX replacement for users of biblatex, with full Unicode support, written in Perl. This release coincides with the release of biblatex 0.9. This version of Biber was in fact specifically developed for that version of biblatex 0.9. See the accompanying README file for requirements and installation instruction. Location on CTAN: /biblio/biber License type: artistic Announcement text:
Bugfix release. * Removed support for legacy biblatex control files (\jobname-blx.bib): Biber now only reads .bcf files which are generated by biblatex with the option "backend=biber". * Improved handling of "uniquename" and "namehash". * Don't escape LaTeX special chars in bbl output, as it breaks math formatting.
This package is located at http://mirror.ctan.org/biblio/biber . More information is at http://tug.ctan.org/info/?id=biber (if the package is new it may take a day for that information to appear). biber – A replacement for users of Bib

Biber is a replacement for users of Bib.

Biber supports full UTF-8, can (re)-encode input and output, supports highly configurable sorting, dynamic bibliography sets and many other features.

The CTAN distribution offers a compressed tar archive of the sources, etc., together with “binary” distributions for a variety of platforms.

Note: on SourceForge biber is formally named “biblatex-biber”, to distinguish it from an earlier (now apparently moribund) project called “biber”.
