MacTeX is a redistribution of TeX Live with a Mac-specific installer, TeXShop, and a few other Mac-only extras. See https://tug.org/mactex/ and https://ctan.org/pkg/mactex for more. Also https://ctan.org/pkg/mactex-basic for the BasicTeX distribution, a severely cut-down, but still functional, version of MacTeX. Also https://ctan.org/pkg/mactextras for the auxiliary distribution here of software not included in MacTeX.
mactex – The TeX Live Mac distribution
MacTeX is a complete, easy-to-install TeX distribution for recent MacOS versions. The .pkg file is an install package for Apple’s installer. The mactex package contains all of TeX Live, with some GUI applications, and a recent version of Ghostscript. The basictex package contains a selected subset of packages, specified in TL’s scheme-small.
Beware: the download is large (over 5 Gbytes).
