The xmeaning package
The xmeaning package provides an enhanced interface to querry the meaning of a token. It improves the \meaning primitive by recognising 5 classes of tokens, where the output of each one of them is optimised.
The package also offers a starred variant allowing to show the meaning of the internal auxiliary macros.

xmeaning – Enhanced implementation of the \meaning primitive
This experimental package extends TeX’s \meaning primitive by delivering clearer, token-specific output linked to the given argument. A starred variant is also implemented to reveal the meaning of internal macros, making it easier to retrieve the true replacement text of xparse-defined macros and other complex macro structures.
