The pkgmeta package
Package metadata information in LaTeX.
Description
The pkgmeta package provides a small interface for retrieving metadata declared by a LaTeX package or file without loading the target file.
It recognizes metadata declared by \ProvidesPackage, \ProvidesFile, \ProvidesExplPackage, and \ProvidesExplFile.
Usage
~latex pkgmeta<key>{<package or file>} ~
Available keys are:
~text default version date year month day description ~
For example:
~latex pkgmetaversion{geometry} pkgmetadate{geometry} pkgmetayear{geometry}-pkgmetamonth{geometry}-pkgmetaday{geometry} ~
With LuaTeX, the target file is read as text. With XeTeX and pdfTeX, pkgmeta uses readprov as its backend.

It recognizes metadata declared by \ProvidesPackage, \ProvidesFile, \ProvidesExplPackage, and \ProvidesExplFile. The package provides access to package dates, version numbers, release date components, and descriptions. With LuaTeX, the target file is read as text; with XeTeX and pdfTeX, readprov is used as the backend.
