CTAN update: pgfornament

Date: October 19, 2026 9:06:23 AM CEST
Alain Matthes submitted an update to the pgfornament bundle. Version: 1.4 License: lppl1.3 Summary description: Draw vector ornaments with PGF/TikZ Announcement text:
Version 1.4 of pgfornament renames the runtime files and fixes several bugs. Changed: - all runtime files now begin with "pgfornament": the libraries are pgfornament-lib-<family>.code.tex and the ornaments pgfornament-<family><n>.pgf. Nothing changes for users, and the old names are still accepted for families created by users; - the documentation is now pgfornament-doc.pdf. Fixed: - spurious spaces in `\newpgfornamentfamily`, the environment `newfamily`, `\pgfornamenthline` and `\pgfornamentvline`; - the libraries no longer change the catcode of `@`; - `\pgfornamentline` now uses an integer count and resets its colour at each call; - the calc library is loaded (needed by `\pgfornamenthline` and `\pgfornamentvline`); - wrong dimensions in the am family and wrong bounding boxes for three ornaments. New: - the family celtic (16 Celtic knots, public domain, from publicdomainvectors.org); - the script tools/svg2pgf.py, which converts svg, eps or pdf drawings into ornaments for pgfornament.

PGFornament – Draw vector ornaments with PGF/

This package allows the drawing of vector ornaments with PGF/. The macro \pgfornament places an ornament anywhere in a document, alone or inside a picture, with options to set its size, colour, opacity, symmetry and anchor. Further macros draw lines of ornaments, ornaments between two nodes or along a path, and frames around pages or texts.

Several families of ornaments are available:

  • vectorian: 196 ornaments (symbols, corners, lines, animals, hands…), inspired by psvectorian;
  • pgfhan: 78 Chinese traditional motifs and patterns by LianTze Lim and Chennan Zhang;
  • celtic: 16 Celtic knots, released in the public domain;
  • am: a small example family showing how to create new ornaments.

The bundle also contains the package tikzrput, which provides the \rput macro similar to the one of PSTricks, and a Python script, svg2pgf.py, which converts svg, eps or pdf drawings into new families of ornaments.
