The following information was provided by our fellow contributor: Name of contribution: latexmk Author's name: John Collins Location on CTAN: /support/latexmk Summary description: Fully automated LaTeX document generation routine V. 4.08 License type: gpl Announcement text:
This version corrects problem caused by MikTeX 2.7 writing log files containing binary characters, including ctrl/Z. When latexmk reads the log file to get dependency information, a ctrl/Z causes a premature end-of-file condition. On MS-Win, latexmk now reads the log file in binary mode.

latexmk – Fully automated document generation

Latexmk completely automates the process of generating a document. Given the source files for a document, latexmk issues the appropriate sequence of commands to generate a .dvi, .ps, .pdf or hardcopy version of the document.

An important feature is the “preview continuous mode”, where the script watches all of the source files (primary file and included and graphics files), and reruns , etc., whenever a source file has changed. Thus a previewer can offer a display of the document’s latest state.
