CTAN update: pkgcheck
Date: October 7, 2026 7:10:43 PM CEST
Manfred Lotz submitted an update to the
pkgcheck
package.
Version: 4.1.1 2026-10-06
License: apache2 mit
Summary description: CTAN package checker
Announcement text:
### Fixed - False positive PDF detection for text files containing `%PDF` as a substring (e.g. a Windows batch file using `%PDF%` as a variable). Caused by `infer` 0.22 scanning the first 1024 bytes for `%PDF` rather than checking only the magic offset. - Eliminate remaining `panic!` / `.unwrap()` sites in `main.rs`: missing home directory, unexpected file type in TDS archive walk, hash-file errors in threadpool scopes, symlink canonicalization, `meta.modified()`, tempdir path conversion, and several non-UTF-8 path sites. - Remove `'/'` from the filename allowlist in `filename_has_bad_chars`; add `depth() > 0` guard so invoking pkgcheck with `-d .` or `-d ./` no longer triggers a false E0001. - Replace `match dir_entry { Ok/Err }` with a `let`-else guard in the `check_package` WalkDir loop. ### Changed - Rust crate updates
The package’s Catalogue entry can be viewed at https://ctan.org/pkg/pkgcheck The package’s files themselves can be inspected at https://mirrors.ctan.org/support/pkgcheck/

Pkgcheck – CTAN package checker
Packages uploaded to CTAN will be checked by the CTAN team before they get installed.
This package provides the pkgcheck command line utility used by CTAN members for carrying out those checks that can be performed in an automated way.
pkgcheck is a 64-bit static Linux binary, and runs out of the box.
A Windows version is not planned.
