CTAN update: fretplot

Date: September 18, 2025 5:12:37 PM CEST
Soumendra Ganguly submitted an update to the fretplot package. Version: 0.0.3 2025-09-15 License: lppl1.3 Summary description: Create scale and chord diagrams for guitar-like instruments Announcement text:
Changes in this new version: 1. Copying code from some of the examples in the documentation pdf (doc_fretplot.pdf) also copied data from the figures on the right. The figures have been moved to the bottom as a fix. 2. On page 12 of the documentation pdf, copying the compilation command "lualatex --shell-escape amaj.tex" introduced an extra character (possibly a carriage return) in between the "lualatex" and the "--shell-escape amaj.tex". Two other instances of this compilation command were there in the pdf, and all three were generated using the same macro. This non-deterministic behavior is probably due to a bug in *TeX, or in the pdf reader (or some underlying library), or the pdf format itself. In any case, this was fixed by replacing the spaces in the macro with \,\,\, (3 instances of \,). 3. Overall polishing, restructuring, and improvements in the documentation.

This Lua package provides batch generation of scale and chord diagrams for plucked string instruments, such as the guitar.

  • Flexible and Automated: Highly customizable and automatable via simple, powerful file formats for describing fretboard diagrams. Easily generate batches of diagrams.
  • Attractive Defaults: Comes with sensible, visually appealing default settings.
  • Music Theory Aware: Includes easy-to-use macros that understand music theory. Render guitar scale diagrams by specifying the musical scale or scale type via built-in macros or directly via degree, pitch class, or interval formulae.
