xpinyin v3.2 brings new commands for querying pinyin data, broader input support, updated Unicode data, and several bug fixes. NEW FEATURES - `\disablepinyin` now has a starred form that also covers the `\xpinyin` command itself. (#265) - Four new commands `\xpinyinvalue`, `\xpinyininitial`, `\xpinyinshengmu`, and `\xpinyinyunmu` for querying the pronunciation of individual characters, useful for Chinese index grouping and sorting; the data table is loaded on demand via the `query` option. (#550) - Pinyin arguments now accept `ü`/`Ü` directly, equivalent to the existing `v`/`V` notation. Previously `\pinyin{nü3}` produced the literal text `nü3` under XeTeX, and caused an error under pdfTeX with `CJKutf8`. (#1069) BUG FIXES - When xeCJK's `AutoFallBack` has switched to a fallback font, the box used for width measurement no longer reselects the main font, fixing ruby text being compressed to an incorrect width. (#997) - `\setpinyin` now also updates the query table for characters not in the built-in database; previously only the ruby table was updated while `\xpinyinvalue` still reported "no pronunciation". (PR #1051) - `\setpinyin` now strips the trailing `5` (neutral tone marker) when storing to the query table, consistent with the convention that the query table omits the digit for neutral tone; previously the `none` form returned `shi5` instead of `shi`. (PR #1051) OTHER CHANGES - Pinyin data updated to Unicode 18.0 Unihan (v3.1 used 14.0), adding pronunciations for about 3,000 more characters; the preferred reading of about 300 characters has changed accordingly, mostly corrections to the current standard pronunciation, e.g. "绩" changed from `jī` to `jì`. The characters "子", "們", "啊", "啦", and "哇" retain their original neutral-tone readings. Use `\setpinyin` to override when needed. - Added standalone regression tests and integrated version-consistency checks for tag-based release builds. Xpinyin – Automatically add pinyin to Chinese characters
The package is written to simplify the input of Hanyu Pinyin. Macros are provided that automatically add pinyin to Chinese characters, and that look up the pinyin reading of a character, for example to build sort keys for Chinese indexes.
